New iPhone - predictions for the next iPad.
The launch of the new iPhone gives some pointers to the direction of the new iPad, that I believe will be launched in the Autumn.
I think it is a certainty that the next revision of the iPad will have a front facing camera for video chat. Jobs himself said so when he said something along the lines of: soon there will be millions of devices supporting the Apple’s new video conferencing format “Face Time”. I think we can expect to “Face Time” integrated into many different pieces of hardware and software and not just those from Apple.
As I have said before, I am not going to be buying an iPad until third party applications can multitask (expected in the Autumn), GPS comes as standard on the WiFi model and there is a front facing camera. The gyroscope built into the iPhone 4 should see its way into the new iPad as well.
I think the new iPad will come out in the Autumn. Why? Well the new software for the iPhone, iOS 4 will be available for iPhone users at the end of June but not for the iPad until the Autumn. Why wait? Does it really take from now until September/October/November to get the thing running on an iPad? Surely not. There is another reason for the delay and I believe that the reason is a hardware upgrade.
So in the Autumn I expect to see an iPad with:
- front facing camera
- high definition screen
- proper GPS on the Wifi version
- gyroscope
- iOS 4
- faster processor
Only the iOS 4 is a certainty but until my wish list is complete - I’m not buying one.
