White iPhone Delayed. I think I know why.

Apple announced today that the white version of the iPhone 4 will be delayed until later this year due to manufacturing problems. And I think I know what they mean when they say "manufacturing problems".

Last week Apple held a special press event where Steve Jobs made excuses for the iPhone 4 dropping calls when held a certain way - the so called "death grip".

Today we find out that the white iPhone 4 will be delayed.

I think the two are connected. I think that the delay is to give Apple time to try and fix the problem. If we are to believe Jobs then the problem can not be solved as all phones have a problem when they are held in a certain way. Other phone manufacturers deny this.

If Apple can't fix or even negate the problem by the time the white iPhone ships then they can keep up with the party line that all phones have this problem. Even if they manage to negate the problem to all tense and purposes it will only be minutes after the phone is released that tests are carried out to see if Apple has changed the phone.

Now image that you bought an iPhone 4 on day one and you are having the "death grip" problem. Would you be happy that your early opting behaviour was rewarded with a phone that doesn't work correctly?

Let's see what happens.
